PGL Playoff Rules
2009 - 2010 season
District 3, ODMHA
A) Rules: as per the District
3 Constitution Rules and Regulations
1.
Period lengths for the playoffs are 10-10-10 for Atom
and Peewee; and 15-15-15 for Bantam and Midget.
2.
The running time clock must be used at all times for
the first and second periods (15 minutes for Atom and Peewee, 25 minutes for
Bantam and Midget). The third period must be played completely.
3.
The visiting team is allowed to place an adult in the
timekeeper’s box to ensure that periods and penalties are timed correctly.
4.
All games during the week will start at the earliest
at 18:30 during the play-off or 18:00 if it is two associations very near each
other and both agree to the scheduled hour (ie Clarence vs Rockland).
5.
A 30 second-time-out is permitted to each team in the third
period only.
6.
If two officials(referees) show up for a game normally
officiated using the three man system (Peewee, Bantam and Midget games), both
teams must agree to play the game with only two officials and the head coach
must sign their agreement on the game sheet , if not please contact the
District VP PGL immediately , before cancelling the game. All Pee Wee,
Bantam and Midget teams will have a neutral referee from other associations and
the two linesmen can be local.
7.
Overtime periods are 10 minutes, stop time, with 5
players and one goaltender for each team. If the score remains tied after one
period, a second (or third, fourth,etc) overtime period will be played.
8.
If a higher-rated team is unable to schedule the first
game at home due to ice limitations, then they will play the first game on the
road and play the 2nd and 3rd games at home.
9.
All teams will not play during the March break
including both weekends of the March break (before and after week of March
break).
10. All teams are
required to show up at all scheduled games.
Teams can not use
tournaments or vacation as a reason to reschedule a game. No games
can be cancelled between coaches or
associations. Games can only be cancelled by the President of the
League or the chairperson of the District. If for any reason a team does not
show up, disciplinary action will be taken by the District and the team will
lose their 2 points.
11. All scores of
playoff games must be reported IMMEDIATELY or within 24 hours to the
association VP PGL then the VP PGL will call

12. All suspension
must be reported IMMEDIATELY or within 24 hours to Jackie Bernard by the
association VP PGL.
13. BE READY TO
PLAY AT ANYTIME, WHEN APPLICABLE SECOND ROUND WILL START IN THE FIRST ROUND. As teams are eliminated, Jackie Bernard will
send the schedule for the next round to the District ice scheduler, the RIC and
the On-ice Officials Assignor, to District III Statistician, to the president
of the association and also to the chairperson of the District.
B) Timelines
for PGL league Playoffs
1st
round: February 19th to February 26th (8 days – maximum 4 games )
First team to
get 4 points wins (2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie)
If upon
entering the third game, both teams are tied in points (2 points each), this
game will be the final game to determine the winner of this series ( no fourth
game will be required to be played).
2nd
round: February 27th to March 5th ( 7 days –
maximum 4 games)
First team to
get 4 points wins (2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie)
If upon
entering the third game, both teams are tied in points (2 points each), this
game will be the final game to determine the winner of this series (no fourth
game will be required to be played).
Final: March 6th
to March 12th and March 22nd to April 1st ( 16 days –
maximum 6 games )
At least three
games must be played in the first week. First
team to get 6 points wins (2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie).
If upon
entering the fifth game, both teams are tied in points (4 points each), this
game will be the final game to determine the winner of this series (no sixth
game will be required to be played).

game will be the final game to determine the winner of this series (no sixth
game will be required to be played).
C) Juvenile
Round Robin
Juvenile games
shall not be played during the spring break vacation including weekends on each
end of the week. In order to establish
the ranking of the Juvenile round robin each win shall be 2 points and each 1
point for a tie. The team with the most
points shall finish first and so on so forth.
In case of a tie at the end of the round robin, the order of standings
shall be decided as follows:
a.
greatest
number of points;
b. after a) has
been considered, greatest number of wins overall;
c. after a) and
b) have been considered, greatest number of points in games between tied teams;
d. after a), b)
and c) have been considered, total goals ratio (The total goals ratio is
computed by dividing “goals for”, during the round robin, by “total against”).
e. After a), b),
c), and d) have been considered, coin toss.
