The Plymouth Whalers tapped former EO Cobra Kevin Tansey for their eighth round choice in the OHL draft on May 2.
The big defenceman, chosen 159th overall, played for the Cobras for four years before AAA hockey was introduced in the ODMHA in the 2008-09 season. Since then he has suited up for the AAA Eastern Ontario Wild.
"I'm excited about having the chance to play at the next level," said Tansey. "I learned a lot from the coaches I had with the Cobras, especially Dan Quinn."
Tansey had a goal and three assists in two intra-squad scrimmages at the Whalers' rookie camp on May 16-17, earning an invitation to the team's main camp at the end of August.
Tansey's next challenge is cracking the line-up of the Ontario U-17 at the provincial try-outs in late June. He was selected as one of 12 players from the ODMHA to compete for a spot on the team at the regional try-outs in April.
Tansey plans to play in the CJHL next year.
