The PeeWee Major Eastern Ontario Cobras, a fourth place team in the regular season, upset the first place Ottawa Sting in playoff finals on March 31to win the championship in the OEMHL A league. The Cobras won a hard fought six-game series with a 4-1 win over the Sting in Vankleek Hill.
“I’m very proud of my players. They played the whole series as a team,” said coach Luc Cheff. "Everyone contributed, and our goalies were great in the final." The Cobras had a rough start to the playoffs, losing their first game 7-0 to Kanata, then falling behind 4-1 in the second game. “When we came back to win game two 6-4 I knew we could go all the way,” said Cheff.

The Sting and the Cobras split the first two games in the final series then tied the next three to set up the winner-take-all game six. The Cobras opened the scoring in the first period when Daniel Markovic pounced on a loose puck in a goal mouth scramble and backhanded it past Sting goalie Anthony Salahor. Mikael Pilon doubled the Cobras’ lead in the second period with a blast from the point, but the Sting narrowed the lead to one goal less than two minutes later. Bruno Cheff restored the Cobras’ two goal lead on a breakaway with six minutes to play in the second, and Maxime Choquette added an insurance marker into an empty net in the third to seal the win.
Then the party was on! Congratulations on a great season.
